Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pay for my sessions?

Payment of $150 for individual therapy or $170 for couples therapy is due at the time of service. You may pay with any major debit/credit card, FSA/HSA card, checks, or bishop/clergy pay. We also have limited sliding scale pay spots.

If you’re doing intensive therapy with us, that price will vary based on what’s the best treatment plan for you. The same answer above applies to therapy intensives.

Check with this link to see if you have out-of-network benefits with your insurance and could get reimbursed from them for a portion of the session cost (Note that you will have to pay the session cost upfront and either submit your “Superbills” to your insurance company directly or use a platform like Mentaya to help get you reimbursed. See more about this concept in the next dropdown about insurance).

Do you take insurance?

Regarding insurance for session payments, we want to clarify that we do not accept any insurance plans at this time. However, we’re here to assist you in navigating the reimbursement process if you have out-of-network benefits. This means you’ll pay for your session upfront, and afterward, we’ll provide you with a Superbill—a detailed invoice that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

It’s essential to check with your insurance company to confirm whether they offer reimbursement and whether you have an out-of-network deductible to meet before they begin covering your costs. Additionally, many of our clients utilize their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards to pay for their sessions, which is a great option to look into as well. We’re committed to supporting you in making the most of your mental health investment!

If you do want to use your out-of-network benefits, we’ve teamed up with Mentaya which is a company that helps people get reimbursed from their insurance if they have out-of-network benefits. The following link can help tell you if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your insurance could potentially reimburse you back for (it’s free to use the link, but as stated above, it is ALWAYS good to personally check with your insurance company to see their reimbursement rates): https://mentaya.co/checkbenefits/BD3ZzctEhwZc7qDVnNr6

If using Mentaya seems like a good fit for you, we have written an article about what it can look like to work with them that you can check out by clicking here.

Why do you charge the amount that you do for sessions?

At Empower You Therapy, we deeply value both our clients and the dedicated therapists who work with us. Our commitment to providing exceptional care is reflected in our pricing: $170 for individual therapy sessions and $190 for couples therapy sessions. Here’s our rationale: we believe in offering our therapists a living wage that exceeds industry standards. This ensures they don’t need to work excessive hours, which can lead to burnout and negatively impact the quality of care you receive.

Additionally, we allocate a significant portion of our profits to fund ongoing training for our therapists, both in-house and externally, ensuring they remain skilled and effective in their practice. We also have standard operational expenses, including rent, website maintenance, administrative support, marketing, and other essential costs. By maintaining these standards, we prioritize your well-being while supporting our therapists in doing their best work.

How do I know if I actually need therapy/not sure if my problems are "bad" enough?

We bring this up because this is something we hear often from many people who have felt pulled to therapy for a while but aren’t sure if they actually need it. If you have been going back and forth for a while on whether or not you need it, it might be worth it to give it a shot.

If you have ever felt anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, stressed, dealing with relationship or family difficulties, problems with boundaries, trauma or a difficult life experience, addiction, or grief, then therapy might be right for you. And if you’ve never dealt with any of these issues, please tell us your secret. 🙂

How long will I need therapy for?

We wish there was a more clearcut answer but it is different for everyone. Some might just want 6-12 weeks, while others might want 6 months- 1 year. Or more or less or anywhere in between. It’s 100% up to you, and we will be happy to give you input on what could help you. We will do our best to ensure that we are not wasting your time and are instead getting straight to the point to maximize the effectiveness of therapy. We do provide intensive therapy packages that can help get you moving toward the healing you want faster.

What is EMDR? And how will it help me with my trauma?

If you’ve been through difficult life events and haven’t healed from them, EMDR may help. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is one of the most popular and researched ways to help heal from trauma and difficult life experiences. A therapist must be trained in EMDR in order to use it, which the majority of our therapists are. During EMDR a person focuses on a traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically through hand tappers).

This reduces the intensity of emotion associated with the experience and breaks negative thought patterns into more positive beliefs. EMDR has been widely studied and has been shown to be very effective in helping people heal from trauma and PTSD symptoms. It can be hard for clients to work on trauma, but it has been one of the most rewarding things to watch clients heal from their trauma and find more peace.

What is the cancellation policy?

You must cancel within 48 hours of your session time, or you may be charged the full rate of your session. This allows us to offer the time slot to someone else who may want it. You can text or call 385-439-0169 to cancel. We try to respect your time and ask the same in return. We appreciate your understanding with our cancellation policy.
